Atatürk's Life


Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born in 1881 in Thessaloniki. His mother was Zübeyde Hanım, and his father was Ali Rıza Efendi.

The schools Mustafa Kemal Atatürk attended were as follows: he received his primary education at the Mahalle School and Şemsi Efendi School, his secondary education at Thessaloniki Public Secondary School and Thessaloniki Military Secondary School, his high school education at Thessaloniki Military High School, and his university education at the Military Academy and the War College. In 1893, while attending the Military Secondary School, his mathematics teacher gave him the name Kemal, thus his name became Mustafa Kemal.

On April 23, 1920, Mustafa Kemal, who led the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, was elected as the Prime Minister by the Assembly. On August 5, 1921, he was again elected as the Commander-in-Chief by the Assembly, and he was honored with the title of Commander and the rank of Marshal for his great efforts in the Victory of the Battle of Sakarya.

On October 29, 1923, the Republic was declared, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk became the first President of the Republic of Turkey. In 1934, the parliament bestowed the surname “Atatürk”upon Gazi Mustafa Kemal.

On November 10, 1938, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed away at the Dolmabahçe Palace, which plunged the entire country into mourning. But this farewell was only a physical farewell for the Turkish nation. The Great Leader Atatürk will live forever in the hearts of the Turkish nation!
